Abreas
Abreas
A commoner by birth, Abreas was promoted from the ranks of the phalanx by Alexander himself for the bravery he displayed over many different engagements. Abreas had been elevated to the King's Guard for his fearlessness in danger.
In the composition: Demonstrating this very quality, Abreas had made it over the wall with the other three before the ladders were shattered. After Alexander had been wounded and fell, Abreas took up position directly in front of the King, hence one of the initial projectiles intended for Alexander hit Abreas right in the face, and he fell immediately, lifeless, in front of the fallen King. Abreas represents the terrible cost of the king's impatience during this infamous engagement.
