In the Composition: The Macedonians have begun to break through the front gate with their axes, and a desperate hand reaches through the gap in a vain attempt to pry loose the giant oak latch. To Alexander's left, a ladder has finally gotten handed over the wall and reinforcements are moments from Alexander's rescue. The individual on the ladder may, or may not be, Ptolemy, Son of Lagos - Alexander's trusted general and friend, who would eventually become the Pharaoh of Egypt and Alexander's' most reliable historian. I left it ambiguous, as historians still debate his presences during this engagement - his own chronicles placed him elsewhere according to Arrian.

The Macedonian Army

The remainder of Alexander's Macedonian forces struggled in their attempts to support their general once he jumped from the top of the wall into the fortress.  The foot-soldiers shattered most of the original ladders in place with the weight of their initial surge to follow Alexander over the walls.
